#1 - Friday, October 19, 2007, 8:00 pm – St. James by-the-Sea
Ensemble Clément Janequin
“le Chant des Oyseaulx”
Renaissance chansons by Janequin, Lejeune, and others

The French Ensemble Clement Janequin under the direction of countertenor Dominique Visse explores the fascinating connection between birdsong, love, and music. Long associated in the imaginations of poets and composers, the themes are depicted in songs by morning choruses of birds, the comic cuckoo, and the exuberant full-throated welcoming of spring.

“The Ensemble Clément Janequin . . . gave a vivid performance of its namesake's music . . . with singing that was sometimes sweet and smoothly blended, often raucous, frequently very funny and always virtuosic…”
